William J. (Bill) McKenney, Jr., of Canton, MA, died June 17, 2022, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton, MA
Bill was born on October 30, 1935, in Boston, MA, to Theodore R. (O’Connor) McKenney and William J. McKenney. Bill grew up in Jamaica Plain where he attended Boston Public Schools through Grade 8 then he went on to high school at Cathedral High School in Boston, MA, and following high school he attended Boston College, graduating in the class of 1957. After graduating from college Bill served in the U.S. Army, and after his discharge he became a teacher in the City of Boston. Bill devoted the next 30+ years of his life teaching at the Chittick Elementary School in Mattapan. His dedication to his students was well known and appreciated by the students, their parents and his fellow teachers. Bill’s passion for hockey and baseball were well known to all who knew him. Bill also developed a passion for golf, and this became his favorite source of recreation over the last 30 years of his life as a member of the Walpole Country Club. He was predeceased in death by his mother and his father, and his beloved wife, Brenda. His love for all his nieces and nephews was a hallmark of his life. He is survived by his sister, Barbara O’Leary, formerly of Foxboro, MA., his brother, Robert and his wife, of Sanbornton, NH. He is also survived by the following nieces and nephews – Robert McKenney, Jr., Kristin T. Anderson, Kathleen Manzi, Kerin Lauria, David McKenney, Robert O’Leary, Stephen O’Leary, Kevin O’Leary, Kevin Bassette, Kathy Martin and Tracy Rinaldi. Funeral Mass at St. Oscar Romero Parish (formerly St. John the Evangelist) Friday morning at 10:30. Visiting hour at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton Friday morning prior the mass from 9:00 to 10:00 am. Burial Canton Corner Cemetery.
