Richard L. Gutowski, age 66, died unexpectedly, but peacefully, at his Ashland, MA home on June 7, 2022.

"Rich" was the beloved son of the late Leopold and Helen Gutowski, beloved brother of Robert Gutowski, Plymouth, MA, of Mark Gutowski, Canton, MA, of Marion LaFlamme, Quincy, MA, and of Jean Donahue, The Villages, FL. He was the beloved brother-in-law of Jeanne Gutowski, Plymouth, MA , of Pam Gutowski, Canton, MA, and of the late Mortimer Donahue, The Villages, FL. Richard was the beloved uncle of nephews Thomas Gutowski and Timothy Gutowski, Weymouth, MA and of niece Christine Gutowski, Halifax, MA. He leaves behind a large extended family as well.

Richard grew up in Jamaica Plain, MA, graduated from Catholic Memorial High School in West Roxbury and graduated in 1978 from Bentley College in Waltham, where he earned a degree in Accounting and Business Management. Richard was a distance runner both at CM and Bentley and once held the Freshman outdoor 2-mile record at CM.

For the past 17 years, he worked as a Senior Advanced Markets Consultant for John Hancock Life Insurance Company in Boston, MA. During his long career with John Hancock, Richard earned several professional licenses and certifications. He became a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) and was certified in Long-Term Care(CLTC). He also earned the designations of Chartered Financial Consultant (CHFC) and Chartered Life Underwriter(CLU) from the American College of Financial Services.

Richard was a truly good-hearted man, compassionate, caring and generous. He had a quick wit and a great sense of humor. Rich was happiest when fishing and boating with his family and friends. We mourn his passing while also remembering all the joy we shared with him during his lifetime.

Visitation with Richard’s family will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 from 4:00PM – 8:00PM at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington Street, Canton, MA. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at St. Oscar Romero Parish, 700 Washington St, Canton, MA 02021 at 10:00 AM. Burial Canton Corner Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the American Heart Association in Richard's name.
