McCARTHY, John Joseph “Jack” of Jamaica Plain, passed away June 4, 2021 at the age of 94. Brother of Claire and the late Marie. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Jack grew up in Charlestown as did his parents, “Townies”. At age 17 he enlisted in the Navy and proudly served in WWII. He earned “Double Eagle” by graduating from BC High and Boston College. He also earned a Master’s Degree in Education and served the City of Boston on the faculty and administration of the Washington Irving Middle School for over 40 years. Jack was greatly admired for skillfully easing tensions during the challenging years of school busing. He thoroughly enjoyed athletic activities and spending time with friends and family on Revere Beach and was a lifelong Red Sox and Bruins fan. Relatives and friends are invited to visitation in Holy Name Church, 1689 Centre St. West Roxbury on Thursday, June 10th at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:30am. Interment MA National Cemetery, Bourne at 1:45pm.
