10 June 2021 It was a honor and a truly wonderful experience to have known and worked with Jack McCarthy. Jack was extremely skilled, as an educator, in administering the day to day activities at the W. Irving School. He was firm but fair when dealing with the students. Mr McCarthy was a great listener and he genuinely cared about his student’s issues, concerns and well being. The students under his care, who had graduated, always came back to the school to thank Mr McCarthy for his caring and understanding of what they experienced at that time period of their lives. I always had great conversations with Jack, whether it was about the different Boston sports teams, politics, or the day to day news happenings. He was a true gentleman, honest, moral, patriotic and extremely knowledgeable about American history. Jack was a tremendous assistant principal who was always there to assist, assess and determine the best course of action for both the students and faculty during every school day. All of us at the W. I. miss you. God bless you! Dan Harrington
