WAYLAND: Prescott W. “Woody” Baston, Jr., 72, died peacefully on January 11, 2018 following a brief illness.
He was born in Winchester on January 24, 1945 the son of the late Prescott W. Baston and Marjorie (Keyes) Baston.
Woody is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Margery (Flowers) Baston of Wayland. Devoted father of Prescott W. “Scott” Baston, III and his wife Shirra Baston of Wayland. He was the loving grandfather to Jamie, 8, and Braedan, 6.
Woody has been a resident of Wayland for the past 44 years and spent his formative years in Marblehead.
He graduated from the New Hampton School and then Boston University’s School of Fine Arts.
Following college he served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army. Woody then worked for Lance Corporation, a producer of artwork including Sebastian Miniatures, a line of collectible figures started by his father in 1938. Woody continued in his father’s footsteps by sculpting Sebastian Miniatures, making it the longest continuously produced American-made
Woody loved sailing and kept a boat in Marblehead, where he was a member of the Eastern Yacht Club. He was also active in the church community of First Church of Christ, Scientist in Concord, MA.
In 2015, Woody was elected to the Board of Public Works for the Town of Wayland and was serving as the current Chair to the Board.
At the request of his family, all services and interment in North Cemetery in Wayland will be private.
