Guy A. Beninati
11/2/2017

Guy A. Beninati, of Medford, and formerly of Boston’s North End, passed away peacefully, at his home on Thursday, November 2nd. He was 87.

Born in Boston’s North End, he was the son of the late Anthony and Mary (Pulpi) Beninati. After high school, Guy continued his education at Boston College. He majored in history and education and earned two degrees. Guy graduated from Boston College with the class of 1952. Right from college, Guy found a teaching position at Medford High School, but only taught in Medford for a couple of years. Shortly thereafter, he secured a position at the Boston Latin School, where he taught American History for 30 years. Guy retired from Boston Latin in 1994 to Bradenton, Florida and enjoyed his free time with family and friends.

Guy was a kind and loving person and enjoyed being in the company of others. In his spare time, he enjoyed dining out and going grocery shopping. He always had a love for the grocery store, as his father did. Guy’s father, Anthony was a grocer and owned his own market in the North End. He also enjoyed reading, learning, walking and going to the beach. Guy was a Boston Red Sox fan, and wouldn’t ever leave the house without his Red Sox hat. Along with never forgetting his hat, anyone who knew Guy, knows that he never took his Boston College class ring off. He was proud of the education he received from his alma mater. While living in the Boston area, Guy was the President of the North End Union and was one of the driving forces to opening the Healthcare Center on Hanover Street. A selfless person, Guy was always an avid fundraiser for cancer.

Guy was the beloved life partner of Gilberto DeSouza, with whom he shared 31 loving years, and they married in 2013. He was the dear brother of Phyllis Ficociello and her late husband Ralph of Winchester and the loving uncle of Lyn Eachus of Florida, Michael Ficociello of Winchester and David Ficociello of Somerville. Guy is also survived by many loving great nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

His funeral will be from Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main Street, Medford on Tuesday, November 7th at 8:30 AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in St. Stephen Church, 401 Hanover Street, Boston North End, at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4 through 8 PM. Services will conclude with interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Guy’s name may be sent to The Parkinson’s Foundation: www.parkinson.org.
