Joseph Martin Roche, age 50, of Mansfield, passed away in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, January 12, 2016. He was the beloved husband of Joanne H. (Durbano) Roche, to whom he was wed on September 1, 1991.
Born in Norwood, MA on June 18, 1965, he was a loving son of Mary T. (Flaherty) Roche of Mansfield and the late Martin Roche.
Joe grew up in Mansfield and was a 1983 graduate of Mansfield High School where he played in the high school band. He continued his education and was a 1987 graduate of Emerson College where he received his bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism.
Joseph had worked as an Assignment Manager for 24 years at WCVB TV Channel 5.
A resident of Mansfield for the past 38 years, he was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield where he served as a former religious education teacher.
Joe’s family was the focal point of his life. He was an avid New England sports fan and especially enjoyed coaching his children’s baseball, flag football and basketball teams.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his devoted children Brendan Roche, Conor Roche, Ryan Roche and Chiara Roche all of Mansfield. He was the dear brother of Patricia A. Phelan and her husband Tim of Dennis. He is also survived by his many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers and sisters-in-law and friends.
His funeral mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Saturday, January 16th at 11:30 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will be private.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, January 15th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield.
In lieu of flowers, Joseph’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Amyloidosis and Myeloma Research Fund, care of, Tufts Medical Center Trust, Attn: Scott Neely, 800 Washington St., # 231, Boston, MA 02111 or the Joe Andruzzi Foundation, 49 Plain St., 1st Floor, North Attleboro, MA 02760.
