James D. Strickland, age 56, of Mansfield passed away surrounded by his loving family, in
the comfort of his home on Sunday, June 29, 2014. He was the beloved husband of Maureen (Keenoy) Strickland to whom he was wed on August 18, 1984.
Born in Chapel Hill, North Carolina on May 31, 1958, he was a cherished son of Dr. William D. Strickland and his wife Lynn of Chapel Hill, NC and the late Barbara (Cheek) Strickland.
Jim grew up in Chapel Hill and was a 1976 graduate of Chapel Hill High School. He furthered his education and was a graduate of Appalachian State University in Boone, NC; receiving his Bachelors Degree in business administration and later received his MBA in finance.
Mr. Strickland was the head of Enterprise Risk Management at CitiGroup in New York City, NY and was previously a Senior Vice President and Chief Auditor at TD Bank.
Jim was a board member and past president of FIRMA (Fiduciary and Investment Risk Management Association, Inc.) He had also served as a board member and treasurer of the Boston Minuteman Council of the Boy Scouts of America; as well as a former scout leader for Troop 51 in Mansfield.
Jim loved his family and especially spending time with them on beautiful Cape Cod, Harwichport being their favorite destination. He was an avid golfer and an ardent New England Patriots and North Carolina Tar Heels fan.
A resident of Mansfield for the past 25 years, he was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield. His interests included reading and in general always staying busy. He could light up a room with his big smile and will always be remembered for his contagious laughter.
In addition to his beloved wife and parents, he is survived by his loving and devoted children: Michael C. Strickland of Mansfield and his fiance Kate Bennett, Maura K. Strickland of Mansfield and her boyfriend Will MacLeod, and James David Strickland of Mansfield. He was the dear brother of Lynn Tester and her husband Jody of Greensboro, NC, Stuart Strickland of Greensboro, NC and Joel Strickland and his wife Jennifer of Jacksonville, FL. He was the adoring son-in-law of Charles and Eleanor Keenoy of NJ. He was the dear brother-in-law of Kevin Keenoy and his wife Diane of NJ, Christine Michels and her husband Ron of NJ, Peter Keenoy and his wife Beth of CT. Kathleen Logerfo and her husband Michael of NJ, Richard Keenoy and his wife Sue of VT and Marianne Keenoy of MA. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, and his loyal companion and best friend “Doogan”
His funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Thursday, July 3rd at 11:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visitation will be held prior to the funeral on Thursday morning from 9:00-10:30 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main Street, Mansfield.
