Steven W. MacCaffrie, 65, of Mansfield passed away on Saturday October 17, 2009 in the presence of his loving family at the Tippett Home in Needham. He was the beloved husband of Rosalie M. (Bombardier) MacCaffrie to whom he was married on June 21, 1969.
Born in Brockton, MA on October 1, 1944 he was a loving son of Barbara H. (Yeaton) MacCaffrie of Norton and the late John K. MacCaffrie.
Steve spent his early childhood living in Brockton and at age 10 his family moved to Norton where he grew up and was a 1962 graduate of Norton High School. He furthered his studies to become a graduate of the Wentworth Institute of Technology, receiving his degree in Structural Engineering.
Steve was a highly decorated Veteran of the Vietnam War. He faithfully served his country in the United States Navy from 1966-1968 as a Seabee Builder and Engineer. He was honorably discharged from the service on February 10, 1972.
For the past 7 years Mr. MacCaffrie was employed as a Construction Supervisor for the Metric Construction Co. in Boston and had also worked for FBS Event Management & Security in the Boston/ Providence area, a job he held with great passion for the past 20 years.
After moving to Mansfield 37 years ago, Steve became quite active in town affairs. He served the community as a member of the Mansfield Building Committee for 14 years and was active in Town Government by serving on numerous other committees. From 2002-2005 he was a member and past chairman of the Board of Selectmen and the Municipal Light Commissioners.
A former active member of the Norton Fire Department Rescue, he loyally served for 14 years at Station 3. Mr. MacCaffrie was also active in Boy Scouts, serving as Troop Leader and Troop Chairman of Troop 49 in Norton where he obtained the rank of Life Scout.
Steve was a life member of NSVA Island X-1 in Davisville, Rhode Island where he also served on the Board of Directors for the Museum and Memorial Park. He was a life member of MCB 133 Association and was a member of the VNES.
A communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Mansfield, he had also assisted with the church collections. Steve treasured the times spent with his adoring family.
In addition to his beloved wife Rosalie of 40 years and his loving mother Barbara he is also survived by his devoted daughters Michelle M. MacCaffrie of Norton, twins Shauna R. Goodwin and her husband Greg of Cambridge and Heather H. MacCaffrie of Long Island, New York. He was the dear brother of Kevin T. MacCaffrie and his wife Mary of Bristol, New Hampshire and is also survived by many special nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
His Funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Thursday October 22nd at 9:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church 330 Pratt St. (Route 106) Mansfield. Military honors performed by the United States Navy will be held at the conclusion of services at St. Mary’s Church. Burial will be held on Saturday October 24th at 11:00 A.M. in the Holy Rosary Cemetery, Richmond, Vermont.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday October 21st from 5-8 P.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home 55 North Main St. Mansfield.
In lieu of flowers, Mr. MacCaffrie’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Seabee Museum and Memorial Park Building Fund, 21 Iafrate Road, North Kingston, RI 02835 or District 33S Lions Club Eye Research, 56 Page Road, North Attleboro, MA 02760.
