William S. McDonough passed away peacefully at the Melrose - Wakefield Hospital after a brief illness. He was 65. Born and raised in Somerville, he was the son of the late James and the late Gladys A. (McDonald) McDonough. After graduating High School he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and served in the Vietnam War, earning among other decorations the Vietnamese Service Medal with One star and the Combat Action Ribbon. After his Honorable Discharge, William returned home to Somerville and began his family. He eventually went to work for the Boston Globe where he was a driver, until his retirement.

The beloved companion of Tina Guckert of Malden, He was a devoted father of Kristen Holly and her husband Richard of Reading, Lauren McDonough of Malden, Jayme McDonough of Everett and Bruce Guckert of Malden. He was a loving grandfather to Anthony, Jordan and Sean. The former husband of Donna McDonough, he was the brother of the late Jayme McDonough and Jane Ivers. A dear brother-in-law to Elaine Mc Donough he was the uncle of Karen and Michael.

At the family’s request, Funeral Services will be private.
