Valreen Griffin Harper, 72, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Monday, September 12, 2011, at Dorminy Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 14 at New Testament Holiness Church with Sister Charlotte Lawrence and Brother Eugene Maddox officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
Ms. Harper was born July 27, 1939 in Ocilla to the late J.P. and Mary Henderson Griffin. She lived most of her life in Berrien, Ben Hill and Irwin counties and was a former resident of Albany and Savannah. Ms. Harper was a homemaker and former secretary for New Testament Holiness Church, where she attended. She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister.
She is survived by her children: Vic (Donna) Harper, Fitzgerald, Steve “Ped” Harper, Berrien County, Robin (Travis) Sutton, Fitzgerald, Dana (Rick) Francis, Jackson, Jill (Lauren) Walker and Lorrie (Steve) Harper, Fitzgerald; grandchildren: Steve (Shannon) Harper, Christy Harper, Brian Horne, Crystal (Lee) Velasquez, Shera (Mark) Herndon, Ryan Sutton, Peyton Sutton, Christopher (Allison) Cantrell, Timothy (Ashley) Francis, Brittney Francis, Christa (Ashley) Clements, Chelsea Rubio, Logan Rubio, Carlee Harper and Madison Rubio; great grandchildren: Kain, Emily, Alex, Madalyn, Seth and Caroline; sisters: Janice Goff, Fort Valley and Carolyn Varnadore, Berrien County; brothers: Obie “Buddy” Griffin, Atlanta and Allen “Griff” Griffin, Berrien County as well as several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Tony Griffin and Jack Griffin.
