Obituary

NEW BEDFORD — Ruth N. Moore, age 87 years, of New Bedford, died Sunday, September 11, 2011, at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford. She was the wife of the late Vernon D. Moore.

Born in Fall River to William and Ethel (Martin) Potter, she lived in this community much of her life. For many years she was employed as bookkeeper for the former M.C. Swift Clothing Store in downtown NB. Subsequently, she worked at the gift shop at the Whaling Museum and St. Luke's Hospital Gift Shop, then was employed at Lazy Boy Furniture and in later years at Garlington Florist. She was also a member of St. Luke's Hospital Auxiliary.

A member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, she was active in church organizations and the "Meals on Wheels program. Ruth was a member of the Wampanoag Tribe of Aquinnah on Martha's Vineyard.

Her survivors include her son Vernon E. Moore and his wife Jane of New Bedford, her sister Bernice Garlington of Rochester, granddaughters-Tanya Moore and Wendy Harwood, grandsons-Aaron Fontes and Ricky St.Tripp, and many great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Nancy Tripp and Carol Moore.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday from 4-7 P.M. at the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., corner of Elm St., NB. Her funeral will be Thursday at 10 A.M. in the funeral home followed by burial in Rural Cemetery. Flowers are welcome or remembrances may be made to the charity of one's choice.
