
MARY LEE (STODDARD) BERNAN, of Hingham, died on Friday, Sept. 9th, 2011 at the age of 91. Mrs. Bernan was born in Hingham and was a lifelong resident of the town. She graduated from Hingham High School and for many years was a bookkeeper for the Hingham School Department. She also was a longtime volunteer for the American Red Cross.
She was the wife of the late Joseph P. Bernan and mother of Jean "JB" Bernan of Scituate, Carol A. Brennan and her husband Jake of Pembroke, Nancy Giffels and her husband Fred of Reno, NV, Victor P. Bernan and his wife Robin of Weymouth and Lee Davidson and her husband Mike of Weymouth. Sister of John A. Stoddard of Hingham and the late Barbara Dasha, Alice Miller, Charles Stoddard, Oliver "Ben" Stoddard, and George "Kimmie" Stoddard. Also survived by 8 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be conducted on Wednesday, Sept, 14th at 11 AM at the Hingham Congregational Church, 378 Main St. (Rt. 228), Hingham.
Friends may visit at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham on Tuesday from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the American Stroke Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
The interment is private.
The Bernan family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of the Pope Nursing Home in Weymouth for their kindness, care and dedication to Mrs. Bernan during her final years.
