WAYLAND: Francis X. Mahoney, 73, died on August 31, 2011 at the Metrowest Medical Center in Framingham following a period of declining health.
He was born in Brighton on May 26, 1938 the son of the late B. Francis Mahoney and Margaret A. (Sutermeister) Mahoney.
Fran is survived by his devoted and beloved brother and sister, John R. Mahoney and his wife Patricia A. Mahoney of Westford and Eleanor A. “Ellie” Mahoney of Wayland. HE was the proud uncle of Peter F. Mahoney of Methuen and Christopher J. Mahoney and his wife Caroline Mahoney and their son Finn William Mahoney all of Concord.
Fran has been a longtime resident of Wayland and attended the Wayland School System. He retired after over 30 years of dedicated service as a truck driver with E.H. Perkins Co. of Hudson. He loved all animals especially his dogs and spent countless hours caring for and grooming horses especially his beloved Chammie.
He loved to spend time with his family at special gatherings at his brother’s home in Westford. He was delighted to be able to see his first grand-nephew Finn born recently. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and friends.
At the request of his family there will be no funeral home visitations and private family interment will be held at the Mahoney-Wall family lot in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in West Roxbury.
A Memorial Mass celebrating Fran’s life will be held on Saturday, Sept, 24, 2011 at 11:00 am at St. Catherine of Alexandria Roman Catholic Church, 107 North Main Street, Westford.
In lieu of flowers, his family suggests that memorial gifts in Fran’s memory be sent to the Ashton Hope Fund, c/o MSPCA-Angell Headquarters, 350 South Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02130 for the medical care of horses.
