Obituary

Lionel J. Harnois 86, of Pond St. passed away Thursday, September 8th surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife, Doris L. (Lacroix) Harnois whom he married 58 years ago. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Emilien and Marie (Deserres) Harnois.

Besides his wife , he is survived by three children; Jean R. Harnois of Woonsocket, Lorraine R. Staelen and her husband Jacques Jr. of Woonsocket, and Lionel R Harnois and his wife Linda of Cranston. He has one granddaughter Gabrielle, also from Cranston. Lionel is also survived by his sisters Alice Harnois and Bertha Dumond both of Woonsocket and a brother Rosaire Harnois of Nice, France. He was the brother of the late Robert, Lucien, and Anita Harnois.

He held the Office of Treasurer for the Industrial Trades Union (ITU) for many years, and then retired from a position as a Security Officer for the former Woonsocket Hospital in 1990. Lionel attended Mount Saint Charles Academy in Woonsocket and served in the US Army as a Surgical Technician in World War II. He was an active volunteer with Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Boy Scouts Troop 2 for many years. He enjoyed watching sports, fishing and stamp collecting.


His funeral will be held Monday, September 12th at 9:00 AM from the Fournier & Fournier Funeral Home, 463 South Main St. Woonsocket with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 Am in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, Park Ave. Woonsocket. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Jean Baptiste Cemetery in Bellingham. Visiting hours are Sunday 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312 in his memory would be appreciated.
