Mary E. (Martin) Conley, 84, eldest daughter of Mary (Mahoney) and William Martin and beloved wife of the late Herbert J. Conley, passed away on September 7, 2011 after several years of declining health.
Born in Mamaroneck, NY, Mary spent her early childhood in Hull and later years in Arlington, MA where she graduated from Arlington High School. She attended Regis College and chose a career as an administrative assistant in Boston. After a 12 year pause to start her family, Mary rejoined the workforce, ultimately serving for over 20 years as the Executive Assistant to the Dean of Students at Bentley College. Mary loved her career assisting college students and played a key role in the management of the University. Students from one of the graduating classes honored Mary with a dedication of their yearbook, further attesting to the respect she earned across the institution.
Mrs. Conley lived in Woburn for 45 years before retiring to her summer home in Mattapoisett. Mary loved the beach and swimming in the warm waters of Buzzards Bay. She also served for many years as the secretary for the Antassawamock Homeowner's Association while residing in Mattapoisett.
She loved reading historical novels and mysteries, as well as tackling crossword puzzles and watching the birds from her backyard deck. Mary enjoyed traveling to the Caribbean and Mexico with her husband Herb. After his death, she continued to travel with her sister and brother-in-law, to include trips to Italy and Hawaii.
Mary is survived by her loving son Jeff Conley and wife Cindy, and devoted daughter Patty and husband Tony Cristoforo. She is also survived by four grandchildren; Laura MacEwan, Dan, Julie and Brian Cristoforo, her sister Joan and brother-in-law Bill Sullivan and nephews Bill, Dave, Jim, Paul, and Scott Sullivan.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Mattapoisett Home For Funerals, 50 County Road (Rt. 6), Mattapoisett, Monday, September 12, 2011 at 10 AM, followed by her Funeral Mass celebrated by Msgr. Peter V. Conley in St. Anthony's Church, 22 Barstow Street, Mattapoisett at 11 AM. Interment at Cushing Cemetery, Mattapoisett. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations in Mary's name be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Massachusetts, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
