Jeannette C. Gillespie, 85, of Portsmouth, NH, died Wednesday, September 7, 2011 in the Mark Wentworth Home in Portsmouth, NH. She was born in Manchester, NH on March 16, 1926, a daughter of the late Francis and Claribel (Avard) Cote. Prior to Portsmouth, she had been a resident of Derry, NH for the 17 years, formerly living in Chelsea, MA. She had been employed for the City of Chelsea Fire Dept as a secretary, retiring in 1987. Mrs. Gillespie was a communicant of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Derry, a member of the Derry Senior Center, and she enjoyed traveling.
She is survived by two sons, Joseph Gillespie of Vernon, CT, and Martin Gillespie of Randolph, MA; one daughter, Marie Cook and husband Gerard of Derry; three grandsons, David Gillespie, Michael Gillespie, and Brian Cook; one granddaughter, Suzanne Rapoza; three great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, September 10th at 10:00am, in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 26 Crystal Avenue, Derry. The burial followed in St. Augustine Cemetery, Beech St., Manchester, NH. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry is handling the arrangements.
