DARTMOUTH — Jeanette (Gardner) Langlois, age 103, of Dartmouth, died peacefully at her home on Sunday, September 4, 2011. The widow of Col. Silas Ross Langlois, she was born on July 10, 1908, the daughter of the late George Oliver and Georgianna (Sprague) Gardner.
A graduate of New Bedford High School, Mrs. Langlois furthered her education at Wheelock College and graduated with the Class of 1930. She began her teaching career in Mattapoisett for two years and then became associated with the New Bedford School System teaching first grade at the Harrington School and then the Elizabeth Carter Brooks School. Mrs. Langlois retired in 1964.
A life long member of Grace Episcopal Church, Mrs. Langlois was a member of the Episcopal Church Women's Auxiliary, served as a volunteer for many years with St. Luke's Hospital Auxiliary, was a member of the New Bedford Garden Club, the Bristol County, Mass. and National Teachers Associations, and a proud member of Delta Kappa Gamma Soriority Psi Chapter.
Mrs. Langlois was the sister of the late Sheldon Gardner, George O. Gardner Jr. (and his wife Dorothy) and Arnold Gardner.
Jeanette is survived by her nephews, George O. Gardner III and his wife, Karen of Mattapoisett and Arnold F. Gardner Jr., and his wife, Claudette of Westford; and nieces, Louise Green and her husband, Edward of South Carolina and Priscilla Fellows and her husband, Gary of New Bedford; her sister-in-law, Phyllis Dixon of Dartmouth; and many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will take place on Saturday, September 10th at 10:00AM in the Wilson Chapel, 479 County St., New Bedford with friends being received within the hour prior to her service.
Remembrances may be made in her name to the Memorial Fund of Grace Church, 133 School St., New Bedford.
