Obituary

Sarah M. (McMullen) Brightman, 81, of New Bedford died Saturday February 21, 2004 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. She was the wife of George H. Brightman, to whom she had been married for 61 years.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late James and Malvina (Desmarais) McMullen, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.

She was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish.

Mrs. Brightman was formerly employed as a driving instructor for Mary's Driving School for 25 years.

She was a graduate of New Bedford High School. During her illness, she was provided loving care by the staffs of Overlook, Coastline, and the Blaire House.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Nancy Kawa and her husband Chester of Dalton, Georgia; a nephew, Michael Wilbur and his wife Patricia of New Bedford; three nieces, Noella Joao, Rosemarie Moniz and her husband John, and Ann Marie Viveiros and her husband Mario, all of New Bedford; and her special friends, Anabelle Christy of New Bedford and Ron Barber of Dalton.She was the sister of the late Emma Coffin, Walter McMullen, Albert McMullen, David McMullen, Marie Wilbur, and Lydia Garnett.

Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New BedfordTuesday February 24, 2004 at 9 AM.Funeral Mass at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church at 10 AM.Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Monday February 23, 2004 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 36 Cameron Ave., Cambridge, MA 02140.
