Louisa Jane Gillum Pitman passed from this life on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was 87. Born March 10, 1924 in Elliot County, Burke, Kentucky. She was the 14th child of 16 of J.W. Gillum and Maud Davis Gillum. Her beloved brother, Frank, survives her. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, John W. Pitman in 2004, her 1st son, Joseph in 2004 and her 2nd daughter, Deborah in 2009. She is survived by her three other children, Glenda, LaVone and her loving son, Phillip; her two sons-in-law, Richard and Mike; six grandchildren, Joel, Jeff, Belinda, Angela, Kathy, and Laurie, six great-grandchildren, Cynthia, Julie, Evan, Dayton, Kyle, and Leah. She had wonderful relationships with many nieces and nephews. Special acknowledgement to her great-niece, Geneva Evans, for her extra love and care in her later years. A member of the church of Christ, she read in the Bible daily and was affectionately known to her “brothers and sisters” as Miss Lou. They were all of great support to her in so many ways. Her quick wit and humor made for much laughter and oh, how she loved to sing! She would stand for nothing short of perfection in her embroidery and quilting, and was pleased to make ‘comfort’ pillows for hospice. She loved working in the garden and her flowerbeds. Birds brought her special pleasure. Spring was her favorite time of year. She was thought of highly by all that knew her. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at Winston-Salem church of Christ at 2:00 P.M. with Perry Hall officiating. Interment will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Huff Funeral Home in East Bend. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Winston-Salem Church of Christ, 2800 South Main Street Winston Salem, NC 27127. Huff Funeral Home of East Bend is respectfully serving the Pitman family.
