SOUTHBRIDGE/WEBSTER - John P. Stawiecki, 87, formerly of Lebanon Hill, died Friday, September 2, 2011 in Harrington Healthcare at Hubbard. His beloved wife of 48 years, Angielina V. (Monaco) Stawiecki, died in 2003.
He leaves 2 sisters, Florence Wolenski and Stasia Roukat, both of Dudley; nephews and nieces, and grandnephews and grandnieces.
He was born in Dudley and raised in Webster, the son of Vincent and Dominika (Jurgelewicz) Stawiecki. He lived in Quinebaug before moving to Southbridge in 1979. He returned to Webster in 2002. He attended Bartlett High School.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a sergeant in Panama.
Mr. Stawiecki first ran the produce department at New England Cash and Carry in Webster. He then worked for the state highway department until 1993.
He was a member of Saint Hedwig’s Church and the YMCA.
The funeral will be held Tuesday, September 6, from the Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School St., Webster, with a Mass at 10:30 AM in St. Hedwig Church of Blessed John Paul II Parish, corner of Everett & Summer Streets, Southbridge. Burial will be in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace, Webster. The Webster-Dudley Veterans Council will perform the military honors at the cemetery. A calling period will be from 8:45 to 9:45 AM Tuesday in the funeral home. He requested that Masses be offered for the repose of his soul.
