Obituary

Doris Larkins DeAlba Parrish, age 83, died Friday, September 2, 2011 in Danville Regional Medical Center.

Born September 15, 1927 in Nashville, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Tony Edward Larkins and Nellie Waddey Larkins. She was the co-owner and operator of Gentry’s Seafood and later co-owner of Tri-City Seafood in Greensboro. She was first married to John DeAlba who passed away in 1989, and later to William Henry Parrish, who passed away in 1994. Mrs. Parrish was a member of the Wentworth Presbyterian Church in Wentworth, NC.

Survivors include four daughters: Rosa L. Mercer of Danville, Linda Strawbridge and her husband Ed of Danville, Kathy D. Shanks and her husband Fred of Danville, Becky D. Brown and her husband Mike of Danville; two step-sons: William Parrish, Jr. and Robert B. Parrish, both of Danville; two step-daughters: Peggy Baker of Florida and Ellen Parrish of Raleigh, NC; two grandchildren: Keith Hayes and Aaron Renyer; two brothers: Tony Edward Larkins, Jr. and Ronnie L. Larkins, both of High Point, NC; one sister: Sadie L. Melvin of Chico, California. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was predeceased by one sister, Rosa Larkins.

Graveside funeral services will be held Monday, September 5, 2011 at 2 p.m. in Greenhill Cemetery. The family will be at the home of Kathy Shanks, 345 West Main Street, Danville.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations be made to the Danville Cancer Association, 2323 Riverside Drive, Danville, VA 24540.
