Joseph W. Samson, age 49
former Burlington and Tewksbury Youth Hockey Coach
TEWKSBURY: Joseph W. Samson, age 49, a resident of Tewksbury for 18 years, formerly of Burlington, passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at Saints Medical Center in Lowell.
He was the beloved husband of Diane (Rezendes) Samson with whom he would have celebrated their 22nd wedding anniversary in October.
Born in Winchester on May 18, 1962, he was the son of Robert E. Samson, who survives him of Sagamore Beach and his wife Charlotte and the late Barbara J. (McKay)(Samson) Dogherty.
Joe was raised in Burlington, attended Burlington schools and graduated from Burlington High School in 1980.
During his high school years, he was a member of the Burlington High championship hockey team.
Joe was employed in sales by the Ira Automotive Group in Tewksbury and Kelly Automotive in Lynn.
Joe enjoyed coaching youth hockey in Burlington and Tewksbury, playing golf and camping in Bar Harbor.
In addition to his wife and father, Joe is survived by his children, Joseph W. Samson, Jr. and Nicaela Samson both of Tewksbury; brother, David M. Samson and his wife Serret of Barnstable; sisters, Debra J. Walker and her husband James of Burlington, Gail T. Matthews-McDonald and her husband Stephen of Rockport ;step-brother, Eugene D. Duffy and his wife Janet of Salem, NH; step-sister, Donna E. Hamel of FL. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Joe was the brother of the late Robert J. Samson.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, Sept. 6, from 4-8 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. His funeral will be held Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 9 a.m., from the funeral home, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10 a.m., at St. Williams Church, 1351 Main St., Rte. 38, Tewksbury. Interment at Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, One Bullfinch Place, # 201, Boston, MA 02114.
