Worcester - Ellen I. (Vear) Mezynski, 89, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2011, at UMass Medical Center, University Campus. She would have celebrated her 90th birthday on September 3rd. Her husband, Zigmont Mezynski, passed away in 1996. She leaves two children, Patricia Mezynski and her husband Francis Canty of Thompson, CT, and Fred Mezynski of Worcester. Her brothers and sisters predeceased her.
She was born and raised in Millville, MA, daughter of John and Ellen (Atkinson) Vear and was a graduate of Millville High School. Before she married, she was a clerical worker for the Production office at the former Whitin Machine Works in Whitinsville and also worked for S.F. Scott and Son in Uxbridge. She did Pharmaceutical work in LaRoche and was assistant floor lady in the inspection department. She worked for six years at Ulian's Dress Shop at Worcester Center Galleria and then for six years at Shawmut Bank, now Bank of America, before retiring in 1985. Ellen was a deaconess and Trustee at Park Congregational Church for 16 years before joining First Congregational Church in West Boylston. She was a member of the Women's Club of West Boylston and worker at the Thrift Shop for the church.
Calling hours will be from 5 - 7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 7, at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street. A Memorial Service will be held at the funeral home Thursday, Sept. 8, at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Whitinsville. Please omit flowers.
