Nancy B. (Blumenthal) Best, 84, of Norton formerly of Attleboro, passed away peacefully on Wednesday August 31, 2011 at the Epoch Senior Healthcare in Norton. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert W. Best, to whom she was wed for 55 years at the time of his death on July 7, 2011.
Born in Attleboro, MA on January 24,1927, she was a daughter of the late Carl and Margaret (Brechin) Blumenthal.
Nancy grew up in Attleboro, was educated in Attleboro public schools and was a graduate of Attleboro High School.
A dedicated homemaker to her adoring family, Nancy had also been employed at Swank in Attleboro when she was younger.. It was while working at Swank that she met her late husband Bob, the love of her life.
Mrs. Best was a former longtime volunteer at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro and had formerly served on the Board of Directors at the Daggett-Crandall-Newcomb Home in Norton.
She was a charter member of the Bearcroft Swim Club in Attleboro and was also a former social member at the Highland Country Club in Attleboro.
Nancy enjoyed knitting and needlepoint and for many years would donate her knitted items to be sold at fairs held at the Murray Universalist Church in Attleboro.
Mrs. Best’s other hobbies included solving crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, playing tennis and snow skiing. She loved sunny days and will always be fondly remembered by her family as the “Queen of Sunbathing”.
Nancy had made her home in Norton for the past 3 ½ years and was a former longtime resident of Attleboro. She had also previously lived in the town of Norton where she raised her family.
She is survived by her devoted children Tracy L. Grilli and her husband David of Londonderry, NH, Kim E. Kephart and her husband Chris of Copper Canyon, TX, A. Michael Best and his wife Mindy Lank of Peter Dana Point, Maine and the late Susan Breakell. The sister of Betty Anne Burkholder of Virginia and William King, Jr. of California , she is also survived by her cherished grandchildren Victoria Grilli, Luke Grilli, Michael Kephart, Ashley Kephart, Michael Best, Krystal Best and Anthony Best.
Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Friday September 9th from 6-8 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. ( Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton.
Gravesides services will be held on Saturday September 10th at 10:00 A.M. at the Pine Grove Cemetery, 1100 Ashley Blvd., in New Bedford.
In lieu of flowers, Nancy’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472. www.alzmass.org
