Edward M. Sorrentino 87, of Franklin, died Saturday August 27, 2011 at the Tobey Hospital in Wareham. He was the husband of Catherine M. (Casey) Sorrentino, for more than 57 years.
Born in Boston, July 4, 1924 a son of the late Edward and Dora (Cusato) Sorrentino, he was raised and educated in Boston, and lived for many years in Jamaica Plain, until moving to Franklin 15 years ago.
Mr. Sorrentino was a retired naval architect, and worked at the Boston Navy Yard for over 40 years. He served in the United States Navy during WWII. He attained the rank of Boatswain Mate 2nd class, and after having seen service in Guantanamo, and Cuba, was honorably discharged in October 1948.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, Cape Cod, traveling, was an avid Boston Bruins fan, and was a daily communicant of St. Mary’s Church, Franklin.
In addition to his wife he is survived by 3 sons; John E. Sorrentino and his wife Cheryl of New York, James M. Sorrentino and his companion Leonora Burr of Quincy, Richard P. Sorrentino and his wife Katrina of Quincy, 3 daughters; Jean M. Carney of Westwood, Ann C. Wright and her husband Stephen of Old Lyme, Connecticut, and Janet A. Sorrentino of California.
He also leaves his grandchildren; Michael, Matthew, Courtney, James, Catlin, Leah, Hannah and Brendan, and one great grandson Ryan.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Thursday September 1st, at 9:15AM from the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. FRANKLIN, www.oterifuneralhome.com, with a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church 1 Church Sq. Franklin, at 10AM.
Interment with military honors will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
