WAYLAND: Lois E. (Manning) Statkus, 83, died peacefully in the care and comfort of her family on Saturday, August 27, 2011 following a brief illness.
Lois was born in Waltham on March 13, 1928 the daughter of the late Thomas A. Manning and Ellen E. (Baldaro) Manning.
Lois was the devoted and loving mother of Valerie M. Flieger and her husband John E. Flieger of Wayland; Michael J. Statkus, III and his wife Diane P. Statkus of Stow and Lori E. Poh and her husband Jay S. Poh of Middleboro. She was the cherished grandmother of Nicole A. Flieger; Hillary A. Flieger and Jill A. Flieger all of Wayland; Michael G. Statkus of Stow; Austin M. Poh and Shauna M. Poh both of Middleboro. She is also survived by her brother Richard Manning of Waltham and several nieces and nephews. She was the wife of the late Michael J. Statkus, Jr. who died in November of 1991 and sister of the late William Manning who died in 2004.
Mrs. Statkus has been a longtime resident of Wayland and previously resided in Waltham where she was educated through the Waltham Public Schools. She has resided at the Cochituate Village Apartments since 1987 and has had many wonderful friends there. She enjoyed their companionship, the activities at the apartments and the coffee club. Lois was devoted to her family and was proud of all their accomplishments and being with her children and grandchildren gave her great pleasure. She volunteered for many years for the St. Zepherin Church fairs, was active in the Womens Club of the parish, and had a strong catholic faith that she followed daily. She enjoyed all of the Boston Sports teams especially the Boston Red Sox. She will be greatly missed by all of the lives that she touched. Her family would like to extend a personal thank you to the staff at the Wayland Nursing and Rehab Center for their constant support and care of their mother.
Visitations will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2011 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the John C. Bryant Funeral Home, 56 Pemberton Rd (Off Rte 30), Wayland.
Family and friends may gather at the funeral home on Friday, September 2, 2011 at 9:00 am followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at the Parish of the Good Shepherd at St. Zepherin Church, 99 Main St (Rte 27) Wayland.
Interment will follow in the Statkus family lot in Lakeview Cemetery in Wayland.
