Roger G. Long, 89, of Natick, died August 29, 2011 after a period of declining health. Roger was born August 20, 1922 to the late Roger D. and Josephine (Corey) Long.
Mr. Long is survived by his beloved wife, Gertrude H. Long. Devoted father of David G. Long and his wife Joan of Pembroke and Stephen C. Long and his wife Catherine of Natick. Also survived by 7 grandchildren, Matthew and his wife Meghan of Colorado, Timothy, Kevin and Peter, all of Pembroke and Corinne, Meghan and Patrick all of Natick and one great-grandchild, Kayley Marie Long. Brother of Clara M Barkhouse of NC, Daniel F Long of Florida, & the late Melvin Long. He is also predeceased by his son, Richard A. Long.
A long time resident of Natick, Roger was a member of the Natick Lodge of Elks and a long time member of the Framingham Country Club. Mr. Long was a graduate of Northeastern University with a BS in Engineering and Business Mgt. He also studied Engineering Physics at Harvard. Roger retired from Arthur D. Little Co. after many years as an Engineering Consultant traveling to all 50 states and overseas to Saudi Arabia and the South Pacific. While working for EG&G in the early sixties he was responsible for the firing mechanisms for underground nuclear weapons tests at test sites in Nevada, New Mexico and Johnston Island, South Pacific. He honorably served his country in WWII in the USCG as well as the Marine Corps. Roger enjoyed skiing, golf and vacations to visit family in Errol, NH. He made friends with everyone he met and will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend Roger’s funeral service on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at 10AM in the chapel of the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park St. (at Natick Common) NATICK. Burial will follow at Glenwood Cemetery in South Natick. Visiting hours on Friday from 4-8PM.
