Rita M. Callahan, (formerly Sr. Rita Joseph, SC) 92, of South Natick died Saturday August 27, 2011 at the Elizabeth Seton Residence in Wellesley.
She was the beloved daughter of the late William F. and Mary (Coffey) Callahan, sister of the late Rev. Richard J Callahan, O.F.M. and Margerie Callahan, dear niece of the late Sr. Mary Paschal, SJC and Sr. Mary Paul, SJC, and cousin of the late Rev. Raymond Callahan, SJ. She is survived by many first, second, and third Callahan Family and Coffey family cousins, as well as numerous good friends.
During her 25 years as a Sister of Charity of Halifax, Rita taught in a number of schools in Quebec, Brooklyn, NY, Dorchester, and Wellesley Hills. She left the community returning to her home in South Natick in order to care for her invalid mother. After her mother died she also cared for her father until his death. She moved to Limerick, Maine in 2000 and returned to live in Natick in 2003, where she was an active member of St Patrick’s Parish until she moved to Elizabeth Seton Residence in Wellesley until her death.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday August 30 at 11:00 A.M. in Mount Saint Vincent Chapel, at Elizabeth Seton Residence, 125 Oakland St. Wellesley, MA. Visitation will be on Tuesday morning beginning at 9:30 A.M. prior to the Mass. Interment St Patrick Cemetery Natick.
