Obituary

Alice M. (Culkin) Brooks 91, of Provincetown, formerly of So. Boston died unexpectedly Saturday August 20, 2011 at Seashore Point in Provincetown. Mrs. Brooks was born in Boston, the daughter of the late Patrick and Ann (Calnan) Culkin. She was the wife of the late George Brooks who died several years ago. She had lived all of her life in South Boston until moving to Provincetown in 1994 to be near her daughter Patricia Sullivan Brooks, owner of the Bradford House & Motel. Mrs. Brooks was an active person all of her life. She was educated in South Boston and was a member of Gate of Heaven parish. She was an elder care worker at the South Boston Action Center. From 1970 until 1986 she was a strong advocate for the elderly. She was an avid bowler and a member of the South Boston bowling league. She loved to travel and enjoyed her trips to Europe and Asia.

She and her late husband were married in 1940 and had nine children. They are George W. Brooks Jr. of Taunton and his wife Joyce, John E. Brooks of Miami and his partner Salvo Tringali, Ronald F. Brooks of Vero Beach, FL and his wife Donna, Gary J. Brooks and his wife Winifred of Plymouth, Richard P. Brooks of Rockland, Nancy A. Sassone of Malden, Joan Raymond of Weymouth and Patricia A. Sullivan Brooks of Provincetown and she was the former mother in law of James Sullivan. She also was the mother of the late Kenneth and the mother in law of the late Vincent Sassone and the late Dorothy Brooks. She had 31 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She was the grandmother of the late Linda Brooks Feeley.

She was the sister of the late Frank and Edward Culkin, Ann Calanan, Dot Laronde, Mary Manning, Audrey Lucy, and Therese Goodrich; loving grandmother of 31 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; sister in law of John Goodrich of New Hampshire. A Funeral Mass will be held Friday August 26 at 10:30 AM in St. Francis of Assisi Church S. Braintree Square. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit the Funeral Home, Thursday 5-8 PM. Internment at Blue Hills Cemetery Braintree.
