Obituary

Timothy J. Buckley, Sr. 90, a resident of Salisbury Beach died at the Beth Israel Deaconess in Boston on August 22, 2011.
He was born on April 4, 1921 in Lawrence, MA. to John J. and Julia (Cronin) Buckley. He was educated in St. Patrick Grammar School and was the First Graduating Class of Central Catholic High School class of 1939. He worked for the City of Lawrence as a Tax Collector for over 30 years until his retirement in 1983. In 1935 he was named the “Most Typical Newspaper Boy” the boy with the Million Dollar Smile out of seven hundred contenders. He was a member of various clubs and organizations throughout the Greater Lawrence Area including: Life Member 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Lawrence Council #67, Ancient Order Of Hibernians Division #8 and the Newburyport AOH Division One. He was the past Chairman of South Lawrence Associates Christmas Parades & St. Patrick Day Parades. He was Irishman of the year in 1974.
He was the husband of the late Rita A. (Surette) Buckley, and he is survived by his sons: Timothy J. Buckley, Jr. of Salisbury Beach, Kevin J. Buckley and his wife Debra of Salisbury Beach, Bernard M. Buckley and his wife Rhonda of Amesbury, Joseph P. Buckley and his wife Brenda of Chelmsford, MA. John T. Buckley and his wife Laura of Amesbury, MA, 12 grand children: Kevin Jr, Joyce, Ryan, Kerry, Matthew, Sarah, Audra, Joseph Jr, James, and Molly Buckley, Corey Stephenson-Buckley, and Rebecca Fleming and one great grandchild. Three sisters: Mary Nyhan of Lawrence, Sister Marion Bernard and Sister Sheila Marie both of Wellesley. Also survived by his in-laws, Jean Buckley of Methuen, Catherine Neville and Edward & Helen Reming all of Florida, and Rosemary Surette of Andover, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Brother of the late Cornelius Buckley, John Buckley, Michael Buckley, and Daniel Buckley and the brother-in-law of the late Jack Neville, Ted Surette, and Charles Nyhan.
A service will take place at 7:30PM at the funeral home with the Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 8 Lawrence.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 26, 2011 at 11:00AM in St. Patrick Church in South Lawrence, MA. A burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
