William Eugene "Bill" Davis,Sr., age 78, died at his home in Water Valley, MS on Monday, August 22, 2011. Bill was born in Coffeeville, MS on September 12,1932 to the late Duard and Mary Vaughn Davis. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He retired from the United States Dept. of Agriculture after 37 years of service as an accountant and business administrator. Bill was a 50 year Mason, a Shriner, an active Alumni of the University of Mississippi, and a former Deacon of Fredricksburg Baptist Church. He was an active member of Hopewell Baptist Church where he served as treasurer. Bill loved gardening and taking care of his yard. He loved his pets. He was a devoted family man and was kind and generous to everyone.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley, MS. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at Hopewell Baptist Church in Water Valley, MS with Bro. Rick Glidewell and Bro. Fletcher Moorman officiating. Burial will be in the Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery with Michael Shaw, Ryan Winters, Mark Smith, Ryan Crowe, Keith Harrison and Clyde Summers serving as pallbearers.
Bill is survived by his wife, Jo Davis, of Water Valley, MS; two daughters, Janice McGraw of Anchorage, AK and Deborah Dise (Jeff) of Charlottesville, VA and one step-daughter, Anita Billings of St. Louis, MO; a step-son, Clay Davis of Coffeeville, MS; two sisters, Nell Vick (Tom) of Senatobia, MS and Linda Shaw (Mike) of Coffeeville, MS; one brother, Roy L. Davis (Martha) of Water Valley, MS; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his former spouse, Frances True Davis; his step-daughter, Karen Bennett; his son, William Eugene Davis, Jr.; and one brother, Clay T. Davis.
