Joseph Jeremiah Stankus 76, of 68 Reservoir St. formerly of Worcester, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, at home.

His wife, Catherine A. (Murphy) Stankus died in 1991. He leaves three daughters, Mary Ellen Barrett of Worcester, Susan White of Northboro and Catherine M. Dembek of Montana; a brother, John Stankus of Worcester; a sister, Anna Breault of Worcester; six grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was born in Worcester, son of Charles and Helen (Yuciute) Stankus. He served in the Merchant Marines during WWII.

Mr. Stankus was an Independent Contractor for several years, before retiring.

He was a member of St. Bernard’s Church. He was an avid golfer and had a passion for gardening.

A Funeral will be held Friday, Feb. 20 from FAY BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 9 Hammond St. Worcester, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Bernard’s Church, 228 Lincoln St. Worcester. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Worcester. Calling Hours are Thursday, Feb. 19. From 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
