Irjean A. “John” St. Onge, 89, formerly of Old River Rd., Manville, died Sunday at Oakland Grove Health Care Center. He was the husband of Claire E. (Delage)(Godin) St. Onge. They were married on May 29, 1983.
Born in Manville, he was a son of the late Zephrim and Eva (Delisle) St. Onge. He was a resident of Manville for most of his life and had lived in Woonsocket for the past several years.
Mr. St. Onge was employed as a tool maker at Bird Co. Inc. for over 20 years and in his earlier years he worked at the Manville Jenckes mill.
John was a dedicated parishioner of St. James in Manville and had served as an assistant at both the former Roy Funeral Home and previously the Lalime Funeral Home.
Along with his wife Claire, John was a member of the Royal Travelers, and they enjoyed ballroom dancing together. He was a voracious reader especially about history.
John will be most remembered as being a very generous and kind man who dearly loved his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a step-daughter Florence P. Aubin, and her husband Richard, of Coventry, three step-grandchildren, Maj. Jeff Aubin (USAF,ret.) of Illinois, Keith Aubin, PhD. of Kingston, RI., and Lauren Benz, PhD. of San Diego, CA, two great-grandchildren, Ruby and Jack Aubin. He was the brother of Theresa Trudel of Cumberland and the late Gerard and Marcel St. Onge, Clemmence Blanchette, Yvette Morrison, and Irene Whalen. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and their families.
His funeral will be Thursday at 9:00 am from the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 71 Central St., Manville, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. James Church, Division St., Manville. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Manville. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 4-7 pm.
