Ronald A. Guillemette, 61, of New Bedford died Saturday August 20, 2011 at home surrounded by family and friends. He was the husband of Priscilla L. (Green) Guillemette.
Born and raised in Fall River, the son of Joseph A. and Theresa C. (Bellefeuille) Guillemette, he lived in New Bedford for most of his life.
Mr. Guillemette was formerly employed as a postal worker at the Dartmouth Post Office.
He was a graduate of Monsignor Prevost High School and attended Southeastern Massachusetts University.
He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, where he sang in the choir, was one of the founders of the Top of the Hill Fellowship, and was a volunteer for the English as a Second Language Program.
He was a member of Your Theater, Inc. and the New Bedford Choral Society, a volunteer at the Ocean Explorium, and had served in the Medical Reserve Corps. He was an avid reader and gourmet chef. He loved trivia, music, singing, plants, and traveling, especially to Aruba. He was a great nurturer of others and approached life with a great sense of humor. He was a true Renaissance man.
He was one of the original bone marrow transplant recipients at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute 26 years ago.
He is survived by his wife and parents; three children, Melissa L. Cliff of Westport, Amy E. Cavanaugh and her husband Ronald of New Bedford, and Matthew H. Guillemette of Fairhaven; a brother, Alfred H. Guillemette and his wife Mary of Lincoln, RI; and five grandchildren, Owen L. and Andrew J. Brown, Emma M. and Liam J. Cavanaugh, and Chevy Guillemette.
His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 11:30 AM at the Grace Episcopal Church. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford.
