TAUNTON – Laurentino E. “Larry” Costa, husband of the late Elizabeth A. (Ferreira) Costa, died at Morton Hospital & Medical Center on Aug. 19, 2011.
He was 88.
Born in Taunton, he was the son of the late Manuel and Eduarda T. (DaCunha) Costa.
Mr. Costa was a lifelong Taunton resident and a 1940 graduate of Taunton High School.
A Navy veteran of WW II, he served on the aircraft carrier, USS Franklin.
He was awarded the Silver Star, the third-highest combat military decoration that can be awarded to a member of the United States armed forces for valor in the face of the enemy in recognition of his role aboard the vessel during battle in the South Pacific.
A retired stamp room supervisor, he was employed by Reed & Barton Silversmiths for over thirty-nine years.
Mr. Costa was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, and enjoyed gardening and reading.
A sports fan, he was an avid supporter of the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox.
Survivors include two daughters, Susanne E. Duquette and her husband Kenneth of Taunton, and Elizabeth Ann Welsh and her husband Allan of Westboro, MA; two sisters, Cassilda Boucher and her husband Leo and Mary Costa, both of Taunton; and four grandchildren, Kaye, Hailey and Michael Duquette, and John Welsh.
He was also the brother of the late Agnes Stanfield.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Wednesday, Aug. 24th at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Anthony’s Church at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, Aug. 23rd from 5 to 8 p.m.
