William R. Dennis, 70, of Mansfield formerly of Canton, passed away surrounded by his loving family, in the comfort of his home, on Saturday August 20, 2011. He was the beloved husband of Jean L. (Frazier) Dennis, to whom he was wed on December 19, 1965.
Born in Norwood, MA on October 14, 1940, he was a loving son of the late James and Pauline (Flynn) Dennis.
Bill grew up and was educated in Canton, and was a 1959 graduate of Canton High School. He had made his home in Mansfield for the past 42 years.
Mr. Dennis was a retired foreman, having worked for 8 years at the former Hathaway and Patterson Lumber Co. in Mansfield. He had previously been employed for over 20 years as a leather tanner at the former Dardano’s Co. in Canton.
Bill enjoyed socializing with others on his daily walks in Mansfield. His favorite places to make new friends was while walking on the Mansfield Bike Path.
Mr. Dennis was an avid New England sports fan and when younger enjoyed playing golf and caddying at the Blue Hill Country Club in Canton.
Bill was always up on current affairs and enjoyed talking politics. He will also always be remembered for his kind ways and the for his vast knowledge of history.
In addition to his beloved wife of over 45 years, he is survived by his devoted daughters: Linda J. Dennis of Mansfield, Jean L. Brown and her husband James of Attleboro and Cheryl M. Dennis and her companion James Maimone of Walpole. The dear brother of Joseph Hughes and his wife Linda of Humarock, Walter Dennis and his wife Pat of Florida, Ann Lagsdin and her husband John of Sharon, James Dennis and his wife Maureen of New Hampshire, Pauline Minot and her husband Don of New Hampshire and the late Mary Ramsden, Mr. Dennis is also survived by his cherished grandchildren Devin, Andrew and Nathan Brown, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Thursday August 25th at 10:30 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55 North Main St., Mansfield. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Mansfield.
Visitation will be held on Thursdays morning prior to the services beginning at 9:00 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home.
