Margaret F. (Donovan) Sweeney, a 25 year resident of Revere and formerly of Charlestown, died on Saturday, August 20, 2011 at Marian Manor Nursing Home in South Boston following a lengthy illness. She was 102 years old.
Margaret was born in Boston on December 3, 1908 to the late Daniel and Bridget (O'Brien) Donovan. She grew up in Charlestown where she attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Charlestown High School. Margaret worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Civil Service Department for several years. She volunteered her spare time at St. Francis House in Boston. She was a member of The Daughters of Isabella # 1 and The Old Charlestown Schoolgirls Association.
Margaret is the beloved wife of the late James F. Sweeney. She is the devoted mother of Margaret "Peggy" Battista and her husband Gerald of Revere, Ann Sweeney of Scituate, James S. Sweeney and his wife Christine DeConsini of Bethesda, Maryland, Stephen M. Sweeney of Quincy and the late Carol Lefebvre and her surviving husband Edgar of Plymouth. She is the loving Nanny to Stephen, Timothy, Suzanne, Matthew, Annmarie, Carolyn, Andrea, Gerald, Sean, Abigail, Jacob, Hannah and her 8 great-grandchildren. She is the beloved sister of the late Joseph Donovan and Elizabeth Rogers. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Margaret's Funeral Mass on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 10 a.m. in The Marian Manor Chapel, 130 Dorchester St. South Boston with visitation from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, August 22, 2011 from 4 to 8 p.m. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown.
