Martel, Roland H. 76 of Danvers died peacefully August 20, 2011.
Husband to the late Irene (Gagnon) Martel, she was his 2nd wife.
Roland was the son of the late Avila and Zelia (Savard) Martel.
He was raised and educated in Lynn, MA. He attended St. Jean Baptist High School and a member of that church. He worked for many years at Vic’s Drive-In in Peabody, The Village Green in Danvers and at Aero Manufacturing in Danvers as a machinist and driver until his retirement. After that he worked part time for Stop & Shop and Big Lots both in Danvers just to keep busy. He was a dedicated and loving Grandpa to his grandchildren. His favorite things in life were his grandchildren, his cats Mike and Sal, flea markets and camping. He spent every summer camping in Lincoln, NH with family and friends always joining him.
Roland leaves a son, Command Sergeant Major David J. and his wife Nancy (Plante) of Ft. Drum, Watertown, NY, a daughter Michele MacDonald Phelan of Newton Highlands, MA.
Brother of Lionel Martel and his wife Ann of Jefferson GA, Father Leo Martel of Raymond NH, Irene LaRochelle and her husband Arthur of Etowah NC. He was preceded in death by Brother Roger. Grandpa of Justin Martel of Anchorage AK, Amanda MacDonald of Beverly MA, Geoffrey MacDonald of Salem MA and Kaetlyn Martel Tuscaloosa AL. Uncle to many nephews and nieces and friend to all who knew and loved him.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in his honor at St. James Catholic Church Winter St., Haverhill MA on Saturday August 27, at 10:00 AM. All family and friends are invited to attend.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to The Danvers Animal Hospital, 367 Maple St. Danvers, MA 01923.
