BEVERLY: Dorothy M. (Berg) Glidden, 95, formerly of Sohier Road, died Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at the home of her son, Kenneth, in South Dennis. She was the wife of the late Earl F. Glidden who died in 1971.
Born in Salem on May 25, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Henry J. and Catherine (White) Berg. A graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Salem class of 1934, she had resided in Salem for many years before moving to Beverly over sixty years ago.
Dorothy worked as a waitress at the Colonial Country Club in Lynnfield and the Kernwood Country Club in Salem for many years. She had also once worked at the General Electric Company in Lynn for several years.
Affectionately known as “Nana” by her grandchildren and great grandchildren, she has become the “Queen Mother” of the growing clan of descendants of the family. Her greatest wish was to love and be loved in return. This, she has become very proficient at to all who have come to know her. She has always given of herself totally and unselfishly. She was also an avid Boston Red Sox fan.
She is survived by her son, Kenneth and his wife, Ann Berg of South Dennis; a sister-in-law, Kitty Berg of Lynn; seven grandchildren, Tracey Berg, Pamela Burgess, Lauren Irving, Leslie Dawe, Kristen Oliveira, Robert Berg and Julie Berg; seventeen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her son, Robert Berg, two sisters, Esther Drislane and Kaye Granger and two brothers, Jimmy and George Berg.
Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 1st in the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot Street, Beverly at 7 p.m. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 4 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Dennis Senior Center, 1034 Route 134, South Dennis, MA 02660.
