Michael Victor Conena, 85, of Falmouth, died Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at Falmouth Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Bertha Conena whom he married in 1950.
Born in Worcester on October 4, 1925, he was the son of the late Paul Victor and Lucia Marie (Dell’Olio) Conena. Mr. Conena was a Falmouth resident since 1993 and formerly resided in Medway.
Mr. Conena was a pharmacist owning and operating two retail drugstores -The Village Pharmacy in Medway from 1954 -1965 and The Sherborn Apothecary from 1965-1982. A congenial businessman, Mr. Conena was loyal to his patrons and was lovingly known to all as “Mike”. After selling his retail store in Sherborn he worked at Bethany Hospital in Framingham until 1988. He also worked part time at The Stop and Shop Pharmacy in Franklin, Patriot Pharmacy in Wrentham and Highland Pharmacy in Milford. Before his retirement he worked for The Steamship Authority in Hyannis.
Mr. Conena was class president at St. Johns High School in Shrewsbury and graduated Summa Cum Laude at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in 1948. He also received his Masters in Pharmacy in 1980.
Mr. Conena was involved for many years with The Medway Housing Authority and was instrumental in procuring community housing for the elderly. He was a professional member of The American Pharmaceutical Association and a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Elks.
Mr. Conena was a wonderful provider and an inspiration to his six children and eleven grandchildren especially when it came to education. He loved family gatherings especially Sunday dinners. He enjoyed singing in the choir at St. Patrick’s Church in Falmouth. His charming personality and exuberant laugh were endearing to all who knew him.
He is survived by six children, Patricia Putnam and husband David of Delmar, NY, Lucy Darshe and husband Jeffrey Wessels of Manhattan Beach, CA, Theresa Brennan and husband Ken of Wrentham, Michael Conena of E. Sandwich, Thomas Conena and wife Deborah of Baton Rouge, LA and Susan Conena and husband Randy Palumbo of Wrentham.
He was the father-in-law of the late Cynthia Conena.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Monday, August 22nd from 9 – 11 a.m. at Ginley-Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway followed by a funeral Mass at St. Joseph’s Church, 151 Village St. in Medway at 11:30 a.m.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
