Gwendolyn P. (Mattson) Costa, of Reading, formerly of Medford, died Tuesday at Glen Ridge Nursing Home. She was 93.
The daughter of the late Knut and the late Betty (Johanson) Mattson, Gwendolyn was born and raised in Rockport and graduated from Rockport High School. She went on to graduate from the Peter Bent Brigham School of Nursing, earning certifications as a Registered Nurse. She worked as a registered nurse in many institutions throughout the Boston area and spent many years at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital of Medford. She was a good mother and enjoyed the company of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The beloved wife of the late Antonio Costa, she was a devoted mother to Betty Costa of New York City, Lorraine Scola and her husband Richard of Medford, Paul Costa and his wife Paula of Reading. She leaves her loving grandchildren: Michele, Richard, Gary, Stephanie, Jennifer, Paul, Rachel and her eight great-grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Hjalmar Mattson, Bessie Orlando, Dorothy Mattson, Mildred Santapaula and leaves her dear nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit with the family on Friday morning, August 19th from 9:30 thru 11:30 at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, followed by a funeral service in The Congregational Church of West Medford, 400 High Street at 12 noon. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
