Obituary

Virginia Loraine Lehmann, 80, of Winston-Salem made the beautiful journey home to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, August 15, 2011 after an extended period of illness at Forsyth Medical Center. A Memorial Service celebrating her life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 21, 2011 in the sanctuary of Crestwood Baptist Church, 530 Motor Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27105. Prior to the service the family will receive friends and loved ones in the church chapel from 2:00 p.m. until time of the service. The service will be performed by Pastor David Wood of Crestwood Baptist Church. Mrs. Lehmann is survived by her children, daughter Marcia Lehmann Custer and husband, David of Silver Springs, MD, two sons, Marc A. Lehmann and wife, Donna Machen of Waynesville, Darrell “Bud” Grissom and wife, Catherine of Jamestown, and one grandson, James Patrick Grissom, also of Jamestown. Loraine was born on March 17, 1931 in Surry County to the late Kermit and Ruby Cecil Coe. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth L. Lehmann; one brother Cecil Coe, and one sister, Dorothy Frazier. She was a graduate of Allen Jay High School in High Point and worked as a book keeper for Karen, Inc in High Point, and retired from Hamric’s in Winston-Salem. She was an active member of Crestwood Baptist Church and loved the years of fellowship, sermons, and music she cherished there. She was also a great fan of Gaither Vocal Band and found listening to their music every afternoon a comfort to her soul. Her residence here reflected the many years of her love of gardening and landscaping; flowers in particular. She was also the biggest fan of the devoted much time and attention to her grandson, Patrick, whom she dearly loved. Loraine loved serving others by contributing to local charities whenever possible, and by her faithful tithes to her church. She was a kind, gentle and loving wife, mom, grandma, and best friend, and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses of Forsyth Medical Center and in particular those working in the ICU for their compassionate and loving care shown during her illness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials honoring Ms. Lehmann be made to Crestwood Baptist Church, 530 Motor Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27105, or to the National Kidney Foundation at NKF Serving the Carolinas North Carolina Region, 4819 Park Road, Suite C, Charlotte, NC 28209-3842.
