Obituary

Rockland – Clifford E. Hammer 90, a resident of Rockland for 64 years, died Friday August 12 in his Rockland home, with family by his side, on Friday August 12. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy (Bonjokian) Hammer, a former driving instructor.

Born in Worcester and raised in Shrewsbury he was the son of the late Pedar and Joanne (Jorgenson) Hammer.

Clifford had been a proud Veteran of WWII having served as a Gunner’s Mate in the US Navy from 1941-1947, and retiring from the Navy Reserves in1970 as an Aviation Metal Smith. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and the VFW Post #5737 both of Abington.

Before his retirement he had worked for 22 years as a pipe fitter at the former General Dynamics Shipyard in Quincy.

He was an avid freshwater and saltwater fisherman, and enjoyed clam digging with his son Phil.

His generous and outgoing nature, sense of humor, and dedication to his family made Clifford greatly loved by his family and friends.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his loving children Phillip Hammer, and Noreen Lane and her husband Patrick, his grandchildren Gregory, Benjamin and Christina Lane and his great grandson Nathan. He was the father of the late Carol Joseph.

His funeral service will be held Friday August 19 at 10 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth Street (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow in the Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. Visiting hours will be held Thursday August 18 from 4-8 PM.
