Obituary

Carrie Frances Moore Barber, age 87, of 110 Barber Drive, Pelham, NC, died Saturday, August 13, 2011 in Morehead Nursing Center. She had been in declining health for the past year.

Born September 5, 1923 in Rockingham County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Julius Levi Moore and Ora Mae Lemons Moore. She lived most of her life in Pelham and retired after 35 years of service with Dan River. Carrie was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, always putting the needs of others before her own. She faithfully took care of her Dad for many years and was special to everyone who knew her. Her home was always open to family and friends, and she loved gardening and taking care of her flowers. She was of the Methodist faith. Carrie was predeceased by her husband, Ernest E. Barber, whom she had married on June 21, 1947.

Survivors include one son: Darrell Barber of Danville; three daughters: Judy B. Maxey of Ringgold, Vicky B. Soliz and her husband Johnny of Texas, Rhonda B. Phillippi and her husband Everett of Pelham; one sister: Ila Bray of Pelham; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Annie Cox, and six brothers, Clarence Moore, Bernard “Bud” Moore, Julius “Dood” Moore, Johnny Moore, Jack Moore, and Alton “Al” Moore.

Funeral services officiated by Rev. Lee Eggers will be held Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at 2 p.m. at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church, with interment following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Swicegood Funeral Home Tuesday, August 16, 2011 from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m., and at other times at the home of her daughter, Rhonda Phillippi, 121 Barber Drive, Pelham.
