Stacia N. (Racki) Short, 87, of Hebron, NE., formerly of Franklin died February 27 at the Heritage Care Center in Fairbury, NE. She was the wife of Joseph Short for the past 64 years.
Born in Chelsea, August 2, 1923, the daughter of the late Steven and Mary (Figelski) Racki, Stacia worked for many years at General Electric, and later at Timex, in Ashland. She was a member of the Women’s Army Corp. in World War II, serving in England and France, attaining the rank of Tech-4. She enjoyed boating on the Cape, Boston sports teams and gambling on occasion, but her family was the focus of her life.
In addition to her husband she is survived by her children, Paul Short and his partner Judy Brogan-Forrester of Milford, Robert Short and his wife Dee of Fairbury, NE, Kathleen Radzikowski of Medway, Rosemary Stonkus of Lynn and Joanne Thackaberry and her husband James of Douglas, 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She leaves her brother Joseph Racki of Auburn and was the sister of the late Helen Fetherston, Carolyn Jaroszewski, Pearl McKennon, Mary Stevens and Steven, Alfred and William Racki.
Services were private. Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery Franklin at a later date. Donations may be made in Stacia’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or a charity of one’s choice.
