HAVERHILL: Beverly J. Berkeley, 75, died, Friday, July 29, 2011, in the Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston after a brief illness.
Born in Boston on February 15, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Edward J. and Hannah V. (Smith) Berkeley. She was a graduate of Wilmington High School class of 1953. She attended Carnegie Institute and was certified as a medical laboratory technologist. Beverly also took additional courses at Boston University in advanced lab techniques.
Beverly worked as a medical lab technician at Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston for many years until her retirement in 1998. She was a proud member of Nicotine Anonymous and was a SHINE counselor in Haverhill. She also attended church at the Christian Community Fellowship in Haverhill. Beverly was an animal lover and longtime supporter of the Humane Society.
She was a resident of Burlington and North Andover before moving to Haverhill. Beverly was kind, loving and loyal to her friends and family. Her hopeful spirit and will guided her to be open to new experiences and to try new things. During her more active years, she enjoyed traveling, skiing, horseback riding and spending time at the ocean. She was passionate about flying and one of her greatest accomplishments was earning her pilot’s license.
She is survived by her two brothers, David Berkeley of Manchester, NH and John Berkeley of Round Pond, ME, two nephews, Alan Berkeley of Osterville and John Berkeley of Naples, ME, two nieces, Gail Blandford of Windham, NH and Wendy Berkeley of Somersworth, NH, one grand-nephew, three grand-nieces and many good friends. She was also predeceased by her long-time companion, William R. Jenks. A memorial service and celebration of Beverly’s life will be held on Monday in the Linnehan-Grondin Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Ave., Haverhill at 7:00 p.m. Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 6 – 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend.
