Edward J. Cook of Methuen 83 died at home surrounded by his loving wife and family on August 10, 2011 after a lengthy illness.
Edward was born on May 13, 1928, son of the late Edward J. and Gladys (Atkinson) Cook. He graduated from Tenney High School and after graduation enlisted in the United States Navy where he was a third class radio operator during World War 2.
Edward Cook was recognized for 43 years of faithful service to the Laborers Union Local #175, Lawrence, Massachusetts; 33 years as Steward including 11 ½ years as Secretary Treasurer. The last 5 years prior to his retirement, Edward served as Business Manager.
Mr. Cook enjoyed going to Atlantic City while traveling to and from Florida, where he resided during the winter months, and where many of his dear friends live.
Ed leaves his beloved wife of 60 years, Venetta (Carignan) Cook; two daughters: Sharon (Cook) Coram and her husband Rick; Donna (Cook ) Shaw and her husband Steve; Two sons: Tim Cook and his wife Michelle Winter; Jeffrey Cook; He was predeceased by his son Michael A. Cook. He also leaves many grandchildren: Scott and Stacey Coram, George and Andrew Haseltine, Jennifer and Michael Cook, Ryan Cook; Karen Masse, Kristin Young, Steve Shaw and nine great grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: Family and friends may call on Friday from 4:00p.m. – 8:00p.m. at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, Inc., 233 Lawrence Street Methuen, MA 01844. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00a.m. in St. Lucy’s Church, Methuen will burial to follow in the Elmwood Cemetery also in Methuen. In lieu of flowers; donations can be made to Merrimack Valley Hospice 360 Merrimack Street Building #9 Lawrence, MA 01843
