Edward A. Fiorello, a long time advocate for the disabled, died Sunday at St. Elizebeth Medical Center. He was 82.
Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Fortunato and the late Josephine (Suluch) Fiorello. Edward served in the Navy during World War II in both the Atlantic and Pacific. After the war he enrolled at University of Massachusetts, Amherst and received a degree in electrical engineering. He worked with several firms and defense contractors and completed his career after 17 years as an electrical engineer with the MBTA.
Mr. Fiorello, a long time Medford resident, was a leader in the care for the mentally disabled. He was the past President of the Medford Chapter of the Massachusetts Association for Retarded Citizens, past President of the Hegner Center, Medford, and past member of the Board of Directors for the Greater Lynn Mental Health and Retardation Association.
He is survived by his wife Rose (Bonaccorso) Fiorello, his children, Christine R. Fiorello, Leonard J. Fiorello, Pauline M. Fiorello and her husband John J. Healion all of Medford and the late Kathleen Fiorello. He leaves 4 grandchildren Ariana, Christian, Patricia, and Domenic. He also leaves his brothers James, George, and Carl Fiorello.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 9 AM in St. Raphael Church, Medford. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Friends may call Tuesday from 4 – 8 the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford.
