Obituary

James W. Pierce, 87, of Westport died Saturday, August 6, 2011 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was husband of Virginia R. (Crapo) Pierce, they were married for 65 years.

A lifelong resident of Westport, he was son of the late Charles A. and Ann (Cummings) Pierce. He was a graduate of Westport High School Class of 1942 and was inducted into the W.H.S. Athletic Hall of Fame in 1990. A veteran of WWII, he served his country in the United States Coast Guard. After playing professional baseball, Mr. Pierce later became a self-employed fisherman. Mr. Pierce was a member of the Head of Westport Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed farming and fishing.

Including his wife, survivors include a grandson: George W. Pierce of Westport; 4 great granddaughters: Kyra and her husband Sam, Haley, Ashley and Brooke; a great great grandson: Ari; and several nieces and nephews.

He was father of the late James W. “Sandy” Pierce, Jr. and brother of the late William C. Pierce.

Funeral to which relatives and friends are invited will be Thursday, August 11, 2011 at the Potter Funeral Home at 11:00 A.M.

Visitation will be Thursday from 9:30 – 11 A.M. prior to the service.

Interment will be in Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport.
